Workshop: Mindlessness

‘Mindlessness’ – Peter Ribeaux 7 May 2016
Saturday afternoon, 7th May 2016
from 1:30-4:30pm at 10 Harley Street, London W1G 9PF.

The title of this workshop is, of course, a play on the word ‘mindfulness’ and the current popularity of mindfulness as a therapy and method for promoting personal growth. The concept is rich in both paradox and problems with the meanings of words. Alexander wrote of his difficulty with finding appropriate words at the beginning of CCC. An aphorism attributed to Alexander says, “Beware the written word. It may not be understood the way the author meant it to be”. In this workshop we will hopefully have fun negotiating this jungle.

However, the plan is to go beyond words in exploring mindlessness (or even mindfulness?). In doing this we will explore the roles of ‘physical’ and ‘mental’ activity in touch and teaching.

Workshop: The Timeless Core

‘The Timeless Core’ workshop
with Peter Ribeaux
Saturday 11 Oct 2014 from 1:30-4:30pm
10 Harley Street, London W1G 9PF

An event for Alexander Technique teachers. We’ll be exploring ‘The Timeless Core’ – in ourselves and in our teaching – with Peter Ribeaux.

What do we mean when we talk about timeless core? Can we recognise and define the timeless core of the Alexander Technique? Is there one? This is the important theme of our next workshop and is an opportunity to ask those questions you always wanted to ask in a great learning environment.

Peter Ribeaux has been an Alexander teacher for over 40 years. He was trained by Patrick Macdonald and has himself been training teachers since September 1984. He has given workshops in Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Israel, Switzerland and the USA and has taught the Alexander Technique in a number of different settings ranging from the performance arts to the aerospace industry.

Formerly a university lecturer in organisational psychology, he has also been a council member of STAT and is currently co-chair of the moderators panel and a member of the Training Course Committee of STAT.

All participants will receive an invoice and a certificate of attendance for your CPD records.

Please book early to avoid disappointment as places are limited and note that no refunds will be possible within the week before the workshop date.

Peter dislikes giving titles to his workshops and attempts to match his offering to the needs and requests of the participants. He does this in the general context of working as much to principle as he is able, given a mild enjoyment of heresy. Hence the rather all embracing title which he will take as a licence for some enjoyable sessions of exploration and sharing of the skill of being an Alexander Teacher.
